Meet Anatolia: 'Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave' Surprises Fans With Guns Ahead of Nintendo Switch 2 Release

"Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" made headlines during its latest Nintendo Direct presentation. The showcase revealed new story details, playable heroes, and fresh gameplay mechanics. However, one announcement stole the spotlight almost immediately.

For the first time in the franchise's history, guns are coming to Fire Emblem. Anatolia became a fan-favorite overnight.

'Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave' Features Four Connected Heroes

The latest Direct confirmed that players will follow the stories of four different protagonists. Instead of focusing on a single hero, the game weaves together multiple perspectives into one larger narrative.

According to Kotaku, Nintendo also revealed that Eshmel serves as the central protagonist. The story revolves around mysterious time-travel events that connect each character's journey and shape the fate of the world.

This multi-layered approach gives a fresh direction to the series. Still, much of the conversation quickly shifted away from the story after another surprise appeared during the presentation.

'Fire Emblem' Introduces Guns for the First Time

The biggest reveal was the arrival of firearms as an official weapon type.

Unlike fantasy muskets or pirate pistols often seen in other role-playing games, the weapon shown closely resembles a modern handgun. Its appearance immediately caught players off guard because it contrasts sharply with Fire Emblem's traditional medieval fantasy setting.

One of the featured characters, Anatolia, was shown using the weapon. Fans quickly embraced the character online, giving her the nickname "nun with a gun."

So far, Nintendo has only revealed one firearm called the Salamander. Even so, players are already speculating that additional weapons, including rifles or other firearm variants, could appear later in the game.

The game is scheduled to launch on September 12 for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Guns Could Transform Fire Emblem Combat

The new weapon also introduces an interesting gameplay twist.

Instead of creating a separate weapon category, "Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" classifies firearms as gauntlets.

Traditionally, gauntlets are close-range weapons that allow fast attacks while helping characters avoid incoming damage. That classification still appears questionable for others who wonder how firearms will function during battles.

Many fans believe guns may offer ranged attacks while still benefiting from the speed and defensive traits normally associated with gauntlets. Others are wondering how firearms will interact with the series' classic weapon triangle and whether they will receive unique strengths or weaknesses.

Nintendo has not yet explained exactly how the system works, leaving plenty of room for speculation before launch.

Fans Can't Stop Talking About the Nun With a Gun

The addition of firearms has become one of the most discussed features from the latest Fire Emblem Direct. Fans can't just get enough of Anatolia's fierce personality: a nun with a gun.

Some longtime players see it as a bold evolution for the franchise. Others simply enjoy the unexpected contrast between fantasy warriors and modern weapons.

Regardless of opinion, "Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" has successfully captured fans' attention ahead of its September release.

Between its interconnected storylines, time-travel narrative, and the series' first-ever firearms, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title is anticipated to be one of the most surprising "Fire Emblem" games in years.

It's going to be a 500-hour experience for all fans.
