Meerut ITI first institute to impart drone repairs training to women

MEERUT: For the first time in UP, Meerut's government-run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) will impart training to women to repair drones. The new course has been formulated by the department of Vocational Education and Skill Development.

Principal of ITI (women) Meerut, Parvez Khan, recently held a discussion with senior authorities of Vocational Education and Skill Development over the commencement of the new-age course 'Drone Service Technician' for which authorities have given their approval.

"For repairing and servicing of drones, service technicians are required. In future, this demand will further increase. The 'Drone Service Technician' course will begin from September," Khan said.

Tools and equipment required for starting the course is being arranged. Initially, classrooms and labs which were used for training in power and electronics to the candidates, will be used for training in drone repairing, Khan said. And a separate lab and classrooms for drone training will be built soon, he added.

"In the first batch, 30 women will be imparted training for three months for free. The training will include introduction to various types of drones, its different parts, detecting technical snag in drones, whether the drone needs servicing only or if any part is required to be replaced and so on," he said.

"Any woman, who passed matriculation with science and has three years experience in relevant or passed 12th with one year experience in relevant field may take admission to the certificate course in drone servicing and drone repairing," he further said.

After the first batch completes three months of training, setting up a drone service centre on ITI premises is also on the cards so that women trained as drone service technicians may get employment.

After completing the training, the women may get employment at drone service and repair centres or they may set up their own centre in Meerut, added Khan.

Meanwhile, Rohit Singh, a photographer who owns a drone and rents it out, said, "We have a drone here. In case, it develops any technical snag, we have to go to Gurgaon for repairs as there is no repairing centre in Meerut. Even for servicing, I take it to Gurgaon or Delhi."

Notably, the ITI is also known as the Government Industrial Training Institute Women (World Bank), Saket, Meerut. The institute was founded with the help of the World Bank in 1995.
