A woman has pleaded not guilty to killing a London-based pensioner and ditching her headless body 250 miles away in Devon.

Mee Kuen Chong, 67, vanished without a trace from her home in Wembley, north London on June 11.

Her body was discovered without a head in a woodland near Salcombe, in Devon on June 27.

Now Jemma Mitchell, 37, has pleaded not guilty to Ms Chong’s murder in an appearance in the dock of Court One at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.

Judge Anthony Leonard QC set a provisional four-week trial for September 26 next year.

Another hearing will take place on December 23 this year when the defendant will appear by video link.

Mitchell, of Brondesbury Park, Brent, north-west London, was remanded into custody.

Ms Chong, who was known to friends as Deborah, was originally from Malaysia but had been living in the Wembley area of London since 2004.
