Medical waste spillage on M8 in Glasgow sparks motorway traffic delays

A section of the M8 had to be shut down earlier today after medical waste was strewn over the motorway.

Three lanes were closed on a westbound stretch of the M8 near Dennistoun and it took over two hours for all lanes to be cleared after the police were called to the scene.

The Daily Record reports the debris, pictured by Traffic Scotland, was medical waste.

Traffic Scotland advised at 10.25: "M8 W/B J13 - J14 Lanes 3, 4 & 5 currently closed due to debris on the carriageway.

"Police and TRISS are at the scene, please take care on approach."

They later updated at 1.05pm: "W/B J13 - J14 Debris now cleared from the carriageway and all lanes are running."

The incident sparked congestion on the motorway however the congestion has since cleared.
