Medical emergency at Scots mountain as ambulance and coastguard scramble to the scene

Emergency crews scrambled to a Scots beauty spot where someone needed 'urgent medical attention'.

Ambulance, coastguard and mountain rescue teams were called to The Cobbler on Tuesday.

The alarm was raised at around 3.45pm.

The mountain, also known as Ben Arthur, sits near Long Long in Arrochar, Argyll and Bute.

Arrochar Mountain Rescue shared pictures of the operation online.

Images show an ambulance swooping on the scene before mountain rescues vehicles patrolled the area.

The person's current medical condition following the incident has not yet been disclosed.

The Cobbler is a popular destination for locals and tourists who enjoy hillwalking in the area.

Arrochar Mountain Rescue chiefs released a statement late on Tuesday night.

It read: "We were called to a person on the Cobbler who was in need of urgent medical attention.

"Multiple agency response with Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard also in attendance.

"Thanks also to those on the hill who provided first aid and made the initial call for help.

"Our thoughts to the family and friends."

Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed their attendance but advised the Daily Record that the incident was a police matter.

An SAS spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 3.43pm on August 31 to attend an incident at The Cobbler, Loch Long, Argyll and Bute and one ambulance was dispatched to the scene.”

Coastguard chiefs sent one helicopter from their base in Prestwick, South Ayrshire to help emergency crews.

An HM Coastguard spokesperson told the Record: "At approximately 3.45pm yesterday, August 31, HM Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick assisted the Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland with an incident on The Cobbler, aka Ben Arthur."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
