The Medical Council of Thailand will investigate an incident in which a doctor and the father of a child brought in for treatment argued angrily, grappled and hit out at each other.
Secretary-general Sukit Tassanasunthornwong said in a statement on Wednesday that the office of the Medical Council would investigate the ethics of the disagreement and the doctor involved.
He expressed concern about the incident, and disagreement with all forms of violence.
Dr Sukit said physicians should control their temper no matter how undesirable the situation, and remain strictly ethical.
The fight occured recently, and involved a couple who took their child to see the doctor at a clinic in Saphan Sung area of Bangkok.
A video clip was posted online by the wife on Tuesday. It showed the parents talking emotionally to the young doctor, who responded fiercely. They exchanged rude words before and after the brief tussle.
The wife said that a few months ago the doctor had cursed at her for not opening her child's mouth so he could make a proper examination.
When they returned to the clinic recently she asked the doctor to look at a rash on her child's face. The doctor refused to do so and repeatedly told her and her family to seek treatment elsewhere, instead of using the 30-baht medical welfare scheme at his clinic.
The doctor's response prompted the family to lose their temper, she said.
