Head of the higher committee to combat the coronavirus in eastern Libya Abdel-Razeq Nathouri has ordered the formation of a medical committee to screen citizens returning from abroad before sending them to quarantine centers.
Authorities in eastern Libya are preparing to receive the second batch of nationals who had been stranded in Egypt.
In a statement on Wednesday, the committee said Nathouri has requested a daily report on the test results for the returnees.
Earlier this week, over 400 citizens returned from Egypt and were placed in quarantine in four hotels.
Hussein al-Jamal, head of the higher committee combating the coronavirus in western Libya, said Misrata International Airport is still incapable of receiving those stranded.
Quarantine centers were set to be prepared for the returnees to Libya, Jamal noted, but the higher committee decided to leave Libyans complete their quarantine in the countries they are stranded in.
He pointed out during a meeting for the committee’s members on Tuesday that there is only one suspected case among the 13 citizens who have been tested.
Jamal called on citizens to adhere to preventive measures to limit the spread of the virus and to abide by the imposed curfew.
Libya has 61 coronavirus cases, including 15 recoveries and two deaths. Medical institutions in eastern Libya did not announce any new infections after the recovery of the four cases, all of which were discharged from hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Libyan embassy in Germany has put citizens wishing to return to Libya in a hotel in Berlin for two weeks.
Citizens can check in at 2 pm on Thursday, the embassy said, stressing that no citizen will be received after this timing and tests will be made upon their arrival to the hotel.
The embassy issued a statement on Tuesday calling on all citizens wishing to return to Libya to fill in the form prepared by the higher committee.
The form requires personal information, and calls on citizens to sign a pledge to abide by the quarantine regulations and accept the measures that will be taken against whoever violates them.
