Median age of people with Covid-19 in city plummets to 21

The median age of those testing positive for Covid-19 in Nottingham has dropped significantly to 21.

According to the city council's weekly Covid-19 surveillance report, more young females than males are testing positive - 621 0-19 year olds in Nottingham have tested positive since the pandemic began.

The figure is down from 29 the previous week. In July, the average age of people testing positive was around 38.

The number of males who tested positive in the same period was 424.

It comes as the number of cases has skyrocketed in Nottingham with 1,654 positive results confirmed in the week beginning September 28.

The report shows that Nottingham has a ‘significantly higher’ number of cases than the average in England - with a growth rate of 496.8 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people.

The median age of those testing positive for Covid-19 - through tests conducted at mobile sites and at home (pillar 2) - has dropped from 29 (Nottingham City Council)

The University Park, Lenton Abbey area of the city has recorded 677 cases - an area heavily populated by students. Following behind is Arboretum, Forest & Trent University, with 289 cases.

Last week it was confirmed that 425 University of Nottingham students tested positive for the virus in the week ending October 2, 2020.

Last month, one of its students was issued a £10,000 by Nottinghamshire police after hosting a 50-person gathering in Harlaxton Drive, Lenton.

But both Nottingham universities said they will not stop on-campus teaching at the moment despite coronavirus cases soaring in Nottingham.
