The start of the working week with the first of the BBC staff marks the beginning of 36 weeks of intensive relocation from London.

Several departments - including Radio Five Live and BBC Breakfast - and 2,300 jobs are soon due to follow.

In the meantime, we'd suggest you bookmark this blog as we'll be bringing you regular updates of news and views from across the north – from the bright lights of the big cities to the peace and tranquility of peaks and dales.

And, as part of that, I shall seek out regular updates about the brave new world of MediaCityUK you now occupy to keep you up-to-speed with developments.

So welcome – and please do bring your friends!

Update: 14.40. To mark today's developments BBC North has launched a new website and social media presence to mark the first waves of staff moving into MediaCityUK from today. The website will include news updates, behind the scenes videos and an events calendar around BBC North activity.
The blog is here www.bbc.co.uk/bbcnorth, Twitter @BBCNorth , hashtag #BBCNorth.
As Director BBC North, Peter Salmon says on his blog this morning:

"So as we throw open our doors, we face an exciting future. Of course we can expect a few unexpected bumps and scrapes, but let's not forget, home is where the state-of-the-art is."
