Media Talk: TV viewing in rude health

On this week's suitably August-flavoured Media Talk, Matt Wells is joined in the pod by Paul Robinson and John Plunkett.

We begin by analysing Ofcom's study of our media routine, which shows that – even with the rise of social media – we're actually watching almost four hours of TV every day. Tess Alps, the chief executive of Thinkbox, gives us her view of why our viewing habits continue to be on the up.

Also in the podcast, Simon Bates is returning to the big time after he signs up to present Smooth Radio's new national breakfast show. Will Radio 2's Chris Evans be quaking in his boots?

Plus, Greg Dyke turns down Richard Desmond's offer to run Channel 5; the News of the World paywall; Jason and Alex's flying start on The One Show (with a little help from Whoopi Goldberg); and a radio station themed around Glee.

Post your feedback on the blog below, or follow our occasional tweets. We're up in Scotland next week for the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, so look out for our next podcast on Monday 30 August.
