Media Talk: Terry Wogan, Mark Thompson, and children's TV

Birthday boy John Plunkett presents this week's Media Talk, so it's a good job there's been a small story to come from the radio industry this week.

Yes, it's the end of an era, and TOGs all over the world are weeping into their cornflakes. Terry Wogan's announced he'll step down from his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show in the new year. We look at the knock-on effects for his successor Chris Evans, as well as Chris Moyles at Radio 1, Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo – and Jonathan Ross (remember him?).

Also in the podcast, Mark Thompson's come out fighting in response to James Murdoch's attack on the BBC. Maggie Brown gives her take on the corporation's battle with BSkyB.

Finally, Howard Litton, managing director of Nickleodeon UK, fills us in the current state of children's programming. Were the good ol' days of Grange Hill, Johnny Briggs, and Jackanory really so great after all?

Have a listen, and post your comments on the blog below, or come and join us on Facebook or Twitter.

And if you haven't already got up to speed with Jeff Jarvis and the new edition of Media Talk USA – it's ready for your aural pleasure now.
