Media Talk podcast: Radio 5 Live, phone hacking, and Simon Cowell

Matt Wells welcomes Maggie Brown and John Plunkett back to the studio for this Media Talk.

We begin by looking at the BBC, in particular its news output. The BBC Trust has found that TalkSport's owner UTV does have legitimate cause for concern about how much news is broadcast on Radio 5 Live. Meanwhile, MPs are lobbying to reverse the cuts at the BBC World Service, while head of news Helen Boaden has criticised the culture of jetting out big-name presenters to major news stories. What do this all say about the governance at the corporation?

Also in the podcast, Dan Sabbagh bring us the latest on the phone-hacking saga, after another senior News of the World journalist was arrested just days after News International issued an apology and admitted liability in a number of cases involving 'voicemail interception'.

Finally, Vicky Frost pops in to deliver the inaugural Gareth McLean Memorial Lecture as we revive our TV review section. Up for discussion: the future of Simon Cowell, the new series of MasterChef, and Spiral on BBC4.
