Media Talk: Democratic convention and Skins creator Brian Elsley

After the excesses of Edinburgh, we're back to our normal time and in the comfort of the pod studio to mop up the fallout from the Edinburgh TV festival. Maggie Brown and Steve Hewlett are on hand to give their considered response to the MacTaggart lecture of ITV director of programmes Peter Fincham. We consider the implications of Fincham's call for ITV to be freed from the shackles of regulation.

Ex-producer Ben Green is over in Denver for the Democratic National Convention, and he reports on the astonishing media circus.

We also hear from Brian Elsley, the creator of the hit teen drama Skins, who talks about his new project aimed at younger children, and gives his views on the state of British TV drama.

And we pick up the stories we missed while we were away in August - including the reports that Channel 4 is planning to launch a slimmed-down digital service on Global Radio's platform instead of starting its own.

Plus, Gareth McLean is back to run his eye over the autumn TV schedules.
