Media Talk: Colin Myler, Rupert Murdoch and Alesha Dixon

It's a new year, but an old theme tune – yes, the first Media Talk of 2012 welcomes the return of a familiar ditty.

This week, John Plunkett hears from Dan Sabbagh about Colin Myler's return to the Big Apple. He's been appointed as the editor-in-chief of the New York Daily News, and that'll see him do battle with his former employers, Rupert and James Murdoch.

Speaking of the Dirty Digger, this week he joined Twitter. Josh Halliday tells us whether this signifies his intent to buy the company, and all about the Wendi Deng ding-dong.

Plus, the Guardian's former crime correspondent Duncan Campbell gives his reaction to the Filkin report on the relationship between the police and the media.

And finally, Vicky Frost is on hand to discuss the mysterious case of Sherlock and pre-watershed nudity on BBC1, and Alesha Dixon's decision to foxtrot her way off Strictly and into the arms of Simon Cowell on Britain's Got Talent.

As ever, post your feedback on the blog below, or come and find us on Facebook.
