Mech Assemble: Zombie Swarm Beginner’s Guide – Mech, Weapons & More

Like any other roguelike bullet hell game, Mech Assemble will have you fighting thousands of zombies and powerful bosses. Since the game features tons of abilities, mechs, and weapons, it can get overwhelming if you're just starting the game to figure out exactly what to do. That is why our Mech Assemble: Zombie Swarm beginner's guide will help you survive the swarm and defeat strong bosses.

How to Upgrade Your Mech

Upgrading your mech is crucial in Mech Assemble as it allows you to become stronger and deal more damage to tougher zombies. If you are underpowered, the game will give you a warning prompt to show you that your power level is lower than recommended.

While you can ignore this warning, zombies will not die easily, and you'll have a harder time against bosses - if you even manage to make it to the end of the run. Luckily, upgrading your mech is easy.

  • Go to the Mech Tab in the lobby.
  • Press - or hold - the upgrade button.

Upgrading requires gold. The higher Lvl your Mech is, the more Gold you'll need to keep it upgraded. Not all Mechs are worth a lot of upgrades. As you unlock more and get Shards, you'll be able to pick and choose the best ones. You can get Gold in various ways, not only by clearing Stages.

How to Get Free Rewards

Upgrading your mech or weapons can become quite expensive the more you level up, as we mentioned above. Getting resources becomes difficult as well since the runs become harder. There are multiple ways you can get freebies, either by simply clearing stages, by completing tasks, levels in the free (or paid) Battle Pass, or getting them from the Shop. If you're still missing gold, the game has a great "auto-play" feature that unlocks at level 5.

It stores gold and experience for up to 12 hours. This is a great way to get gold or XP in bulk when you log in or require those resources. Alternatively, you can also redeem codes to get cool rewards like diamonds, gold, mech shards, and chest keys.

These are all useful rewards as they not only help you upgrade your mech and weapons, but they also help you unlock new weapons. Plus, you can use diamonds to respawn once if you die during a run.

Best Weapons

There are tons of weapons in Mech Assemble that will help you take down those pesky zombies. As for some of the best weapons, they contain AoE effects that help you take out multiple enemies and clear a path to move around. This comes in handy during the swarm when endless zombies run toward your mech.

Usually, a good weapon will have a low cooldown and high damage. Plus, its upgrade will have useful buffs that increase its damage and give it strong passive buffs. Some of the best weapons in Mech Assemble: Zombie Swarm are:

Weapon Abilities
Frost Beam Cannon
(Legendary)
- Shoots tracking freezing beams at enemies, which means there is a chance to freeze them and enact crowd control.
-
Laser Cannon
(Excellent)
- A laser that continuously shoots and does damage to enemies in a straight line (you can use it like a light saber and slash away the enemies around you).
- Considering that you can get this weapon pretty early on, it still holds up extremely well even in later runs,
Firethrower
(Rare)
- Sprays fire at enemies
- Especially great with the additional Burning effect which you get after upgrading this weapon.
Thunder Spear
(Legendary)
- Spears which descend like Thunder to deal massive damage.
- With upgrades, you'll also get an increase of range, as well as even more damage
Laser Turret
(Excellent)
- Place down a Turret that tracks and fires lasers at enemies.
- With upgrades, this weapon will also unlock a Freeze effect. CC is very important especially during large zombie waves.

An honorary mention is the Lightning Shield, only because you get it through the VIP level on the Battle Pass. If you're plan is to just be F2P, then this Shield, while useful, isn't for you.

How to Add Weapons

Every mech has a limit of 4 weapons that you can attach to make it stronger. While you might be tempted to add the strongest one and mow down zombies, that might not be the best idea. Some of the strongest weapons have a downside, like a higher reload time, to make them balanced.

If you want to make the most out of your mech, you should combine weapons with various effects. Crowd Control is extremely important when you're getting surrounded fast, so you should pick a weapon with a Freeze effect. Burning effects are also useful because they do damage even after you've stopped shooting fire.

Adding weapons is a very simple process. You need to open your mech menu and add whatever weapon you like.

You can also add various accessories that will give you more HP, defense, or attack. This makes your mech stronger, and they have no downside to them either. So, make sure that you use them on all your mechs to make them powerful.

Which Weapons to Upgrade

You might be tempted to upgrade all weapons and have them at the same level. However, certain weapons like the Mortar Cannon aren't worth upgrading due to their low damage and weak upgrades. During your run, check out which weapons are performing well and coming in handy during sticky situations.

Weapons like the Laser Cannon should have more priority when it comes to upgrading. That will greatly increase their damage, along with giving them powerful passive effects as well. Keep in mind that the more you upgrade a weapon, the more expensive it becomes.

As for which weapons you should prioritize, make sure that you upgrade AoE weapons that have a lower cooldown and strong passive effects. However, don't forget about the Mech weapons. While the rest of your special added weapons are on a cooldown, the Mech will be holding its own as well. Use up one or two Ability slots to upgrade either Mech weapon damage or add Split Bullets.

Best Abilities to Get

Like any other roguelike, you will get various abilities during your runs. Since they are random and you won't be able to repeat the same combo alway, it becomes harder to choose specific abilities. So, to make the entire process easier for picking abilities, you should prioritize AoE upgrades and skills that apply debuffs.

Pick abilities like the Split Bullets, Bullet Penetration, and Increased Mech/Weapon Damage to make the most out of every run. You should also get skills that provide additional passives like freezing enemies or dealing more burn damage. One of my go to's whenever it appears is an Increased firing rate when a Boss appears in a stage. Firing more bullets has definitely saved me in many runs.

All of this will make it easier to handle swarms and take them out without having to worry. Sometimes you'll have to take abilities that buff you in a certain way but debuff in a different one. This can be balanced out relatively easily. For example, if an ability reduces your damage on a weapon, make sure to prioritize a skill that will boost that weapon's damage in a next pick.

How to Move

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Moving around in a bullet hell game is essential as it allows you to survive. The same can be said about Mech Assemble as well. You have to keep moving around the map and try not to get cornered. Make sure to collect the green energy whenever you kill zombies. Once you collect enough of them, you will level up and gain new abilities.

As you progress through the run, an event will trigger where the entire swarm of zombies comes to hunt you. During this time, make sure that you move to an area with the fewest entrances possible. This way, you'll only have to fight zombies from one direction, and they won't overrun you. However, don't be afraid to go towards the enemies. You'll need to do this to gather the green gems and level up.

Mini-Bosses deal bigger damage than regular zombies, but they can still be defeated relatively easily. Once they die, they drop some great loot with more special abilities, as well as health packs that will help you stay alive in the long run.

During big Boss fights, the area becomes limited, but you can still effectively move around without taking any damage. You will still get attacked by both regular zombies and Mini-Bosses in this area, so make sure you keep moving. The best way to dodge both of them is to clear incoming zombies so that you have more space to walk.
