Meath granny shares 'secret' to long life ahead of 107th birthday

A 106-year-old woman has told how she is looking forward to her birthday in October and puts her long life down to staying positive.

Born in 1913, Nancy Stewart, from Clonard in Co Meath, is older than the State and still lives mostly independently in her own home with the help of family who stay with her.

The mum of six, who has 64 grandchildren, great and great-great grand-children, revealed her life advice in a video message.

In the footage, recorded by her granddaughter Louise Coghlan, Nancy says “you should look on the bright side all the time, no matter what and don’t dwell on the past”.

She added: “I had a lovely Christmas. I was out for dinner and teas.

“Everyone asked me out but I wasn’t able to fulfil all the invitations but thanks to everyone who helped me out.”

She joked she would be “stuck in the corner eating” on St Stephen’s Day, adding: “I’ve missed no meal yet, thank God.

“I love my food, that’s why I’m so good.

“Everyone eat well, let it be plain or whatever it is, but eat enough of it and don’t be leaving it behind.

“I want to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a very good New Year.

“I hope if God is good to me, and I’m good to him, I’ll be 107 next year.”
