Meath GAA launch investigation into alleged incident between Andy McEntee and journalist

Meath GAA have launched an investigation into an alleged incident between Andy McEntee and a local journalist after the county's Leinster final defeat to Dublin last Sunday.

The Royals boss is reported to have confronted Meath Chronicle journalist Jimmy Geoghegan at Croke Park, with the local newspaper requesting an apology.

According to the publication, the journalist asked McEntee if some of his players would be released to their clubs to play in county hurling championships this weekend.

"Are you f**king mad? What sort of f**king question is that to ask me?," McEntee allegedly replied.

The Meath boss is also reported to have approached Geoghegan afterwards while the journalist was interviewing Meath players.

He said: “I’ll take the f**king head off you if I see you near the f**king dressing room again.”

The publication have labelled the confrontation an 'extraordinary attack' on their reporter, and requested a formal apology from the Meath boss.

And in a statement this morning, Meath GAA acknowledged their awareness of the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The statement said: "Meath GAA are aware of the incident involving the Meath Senior Football Manager and a reporter from the Meath Chronicle.

"Meath GAA are investigating this incident and no further comment will be made regarding this issue at this time."

Meath were comprehensively beaten in Sunday's Leinster final as Dublin cruised to a 1-17 to 0-04 victory, claiming their ninth Delaney Cup on the bounce.
