A councillor was left "stuck for words" after discovering her office had been vandalised overnight.
Independent councillor Sharon Keoghan who is running in the upcoming General Election expressed her shock when she discovered her office, in Duleek Co. Meath had been set alight.
Taking to social media Keoghan shared photos of the damage done to the premises.
She said: "So this is what happened to my office last night."
"Gardai are here doing forensics.
"Thank God the whole building didn't go up as people live upstairs. I'm just stuck for words at this time."
She added in a statement today: "Anyone who knows me, knows the work that I do and it won’t deter my work. I’m here to serve the community and will continue to do what I can to make our communities safe for all.”
"This office is here to serve the community of Duleek who elected me to represent and support them.
"This arson attack is not only an attack on me but also the people of the area. We have to stand together to say this is not acceptable.”
Her statement added that Keoghan has been "vocal about the drug gangs who have infiltrated Duleek and the surrounding district".
She added: “My office is destroyed but I am going to continue to work hard for the community. The office is adjoined to apartments too so this could have been devastating for so many people.
"I am very upset and shocked that this would happen to me when all I try to do is good”.
A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are attending an incident of criminal damage at Duleek Co. Meath, on January, 14 2020. Investigations are ongoing."
