Meath have been told the ball is in their court over the alleged spitting incident that overshadowed last Sunday’s tie with Kildare.
Tensions boiled over at the end of the Division Two semi-final, won by Kildare, with two Meath players, Conor McGill and Brian Conlon, sent off for alleged striking offences by referee Barry Cassidy following a melee.
Meath have received correspondence asking that manager Andy McEntee back up his claims that a Kildare player spat in McGill’s face.
McEntee commented after the game: "Don’t talk to me about the sending off.
“We had a player who got spat on in the face and he ends up getting sent off so I mean… how many players were involved in that? A) how many players were involved in it, and B) who started it? And what was the outcome?
“Conor McGill is not a fighter. Somebody spits in your face, what are you going to do?”

McGill and Conlon have been slapped with one-match bans, which rules them out of Meath’s Championship opener against Carlow or Longford on July 4.
"There’s no appealing it, you’re wasting your time appealing,” said McEntee on Sunday. “That’s always been my experience. If the referee says he struck, he struck.”
