Meat Loaf collapses on stage in Canada

American rock star and actor Meat Loaf collapsed on stage during a concert in Edmonton in Canada on Thursday night.

Footage of the incident posted on Twitter shows the singer lean heavily to his right, drop his microphone stand and fall to the floor during his hit song I Would Do Anything for Love.

He then appears to lose consciousness as his band mates stop playing and rush over to him.

Edmonton fire department confirmed they responded to a medical call at the venue, and the singer was transported to Edmonton Hospital by Alberta Health Service.

The 68-year-old had cancelled two shows earlier in the week due to illness.

The audience at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium was cleared shortly after the musician - born Marvin Lee Aday - collapsed, and numerous emergency vehicles attended the scene.

Edmonton Hospital has said no further details are available on the condition of the singer.
