Meanwood resident woken by 'drunken' lockdown house party speaks out

A Meanwood resident has spoken after being woken up by “drunk” house party goers.

West Yorkshire Police attended a property in Beckhill Avenue in the early hours of the morning Bank Holiday Monday (25 May) where a party was taking place.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said they were woken up “by what sounded like drunk people in the street”.

Looking through her window as she struggled to sleep because of the noise between 2am and 4am, she saw “three police vans and a police car” as well as “lots of people” who were outside the flats on the street.

Speaking to LeedsLive she said: “I woke up hearing shouting and what sounded like drunk people in the street.

“There was a really loud pounding on a door which woke me up properly. I get quite anxious so I wasn't angry, I just wanted to sleep through it.

“I watched on and off from my window. I thought it may be a party but I didn't think people would be that stupid.

“I looked out of the window at one point because I thought I should call the police but there was already a van outside, then a little while later there were three police vans and a police car.

“Lots of people were outside the flats, I even saw a woman with a toddler which is why I wasn't sure if it was a party.

“I couldn't really make out what anyone was yelling, other none police cars came to collect people (I assume).

“Between people sounding drunk and me being half asleep I don't remember much else. It must have been a really big gathering because of the number of police vehicles.

“The police were all masked and keeping very calm despite people being totally drunk and idiotic towards them.”

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended on Beckhill Avenue, Leeds in the early hours of Monday morning ( 25/5) to a report of a house party taking place.

“Police spoke with persons present and retained a presence in the area as those attending dispersed.”
