Mean Girls fans' mixed reactions as Tina Fey announces musical will turn into movie

Mean Girls fans, rejoice! Tina Fey has announced there's going to be a brand new movie release of the Broadway musical.

The original 2004 film, written by Tina herself, was turned into a musical and is now returning as a movie musical.

Producers of the Broadway show announced the feel-good musical movie will hit the big screen with Paramount Pictures, 15 years after it first hit theatres.

According to E! News, Fey wrote the script for the upcoming musical film and she will produce alongside Lorne Michaels.

Speaking to the publication, Tina said: "I'm very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen.

"It's been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences.

"I've spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly."

Producer Lorne admitted "it has been a joy" to work on Mean Girls, and "to watch it go from film, to musical, and now to musical film."

He also revealed he is "very proud" that Tina's story and characters "continue to resonate with new generations."

Taking to Twitter to discuss the exciting news, fans shared their thoughts on the new Mean Girls musical movie.

One ecstatic fan wrote: "Can it just be that everyone gets to watch the musical for free whenever they want and meet the cast like every day forever because if yes then yes pleeeaasseee".

Another fan was left less than impressed, writing: "tbh tho, i am a lil excited about a movie musical mean girls but i will ALWAYS need it to be KNOWN that the only one we NEED is the legally blonde musical made into a movie".
