A woman warns about an upcoming class action lawsuit against menstrual hygiene brand Tampax. She urges other tampon users to stay tuned and “get paid.”
In a video with over 206,000 views, TikToker Cassidy (@cassidyclique) says “everyone should know about” the class action lawsuit and shares an app where other users can file if a settlement is available.
“Probably 90% of women have used Tampax,” Cassidy says in the TikTok. “And if you’re a consistent user, the implications of that are crazy.”
Why is there a class action lawsuit against Tampax?
A judge recently allowed a class action in California to proceed over the parent company of Tampax, Procter & Gamble. According to a report by About Lawsuits, a California woman filed allegations that the tampon brand contains dangerous levels of toxic metals like lead.
Lead exposure can lead to long-term health concerns like abdominal pain, high blood pressure, organ damage, and cognitive decline, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Cassidy urges other women to stay in the loop on the class action lawsuit.
“This is something that you can be compensated for. When the settlement goes live, I will be filing through the Claim app,” she says. “The damage is already done, so we might as well get paid for it.”
The Claim app lets users search for upcoming class actions to potentially get paid as part of the settlement. It provides a list of trending settlements that users can try to benefit from as passive income.
What do Tampax users think of the lawsuit?
In the comments, viewers say they’re alarmed by the allegations and plan to avoid the tampon brand.
“We’re ALL suing. As we all have one in omg,” one writes.
“Watching this on the toilet, turned to see my Tampax box,” another jokes.
“No imma cry wtf am i supposed to do with my giant ass box of them those [expletive] expensive,” a third laments.
However, others say they’ll continue to purchase their “go-to” brand.
“I don’t CAREEEEEE. tampax is like the only brand that carries light in the store,” a commenter remarks.
“This is my favorite brand wtf I’m freaking out,” another says.
Some commenters share their favorite tampon alternatives for those who want to switch.
“I’m telling y’all get the menstrual disc!!! no toxic metals, better for the environment, you’ll never go back,” one offers.
“Strictly diva cup for 3 years,” another writes.
“If you can afford it, ALWAYS buy organic feminine products. My periods are lighter, less painful, and there’s zero smell. You deserve better,” a third adds.
