Children whose parents are separated will still be able to move between both homes, the Government has clarified.
On Monday night, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced tough new measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
He said people will only be allowed to leave their homes under specific circumstances, and gatherings of more than two people who don't already live in the same household have been prohibited.
The measures caused confusion among parents who were separated and left them wondering if they would be able to see their children during the lockdown.
Now, Cabinet Minister Michael Gove has clarified the Government's position and said mums and dads living separately will still be able to see their young ones.
He gave interviews to journalists on Tuesday morning explaining the new restrictions.
He told BBC Breakfast: "The key thing here is actually if you want to ensure that children can see their parent then they can be moved from one parent to another.
"On a previous broadcast on Good Morning Britain I stressed that wherever possible this should be kept to a minimum but I want to absolutely clarify that I wasn't sufficiently clear earlier.
"It is the case that children under the age of 18 can see both parents."
He further stressed: "It is the case that there can be that contact. Again, one of the things that I'm anxious to do is to make sure that we minimise social contact but you've given me the opportunity to clarify this point and I'm grateful for that.
"Those under the age of 18, children under the age of 18, can see both parents."
