'McLovin it': McDonald's to reopen East Kilbride drive-thrus next week

McDonald's will reopen in East Kilbride for drive-thu and delivery next week.

Returning to trading after the coronavirus shutdown from June 2, the fast food favourite will announce which Golden Arches branch is reopening only on the morning that service is resuming in order to manage demand.

All drive-thrus at its 924 restaurants in the UK and Ireland, including at East Kilbride Queensway and  Lees Burn Court, will open by June 4.

The chain will also add 75 restaurants to McDelivery via Uber Eats or Just Eat.

The company said it was working with local authorities and police in the run-up to the reopenings after almost two months’ closure.

McDonald’s, along with its competitors Burger King, KFC and Nando’s, have been trialling phased reopenings of their restaurants, with increased safety measures.

In order to allow for social distancing, there will be fewer employees in kitchens and service areas.

There will also be a limited menu -- no breakfast, wrap or milkshakes - with reduced hours in place (11am-10pm).

Customers are being asked to limit their spend to £25 and use contactless payment.

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "Our teams are adjusting to new safety and hygiene procedures, which will help them to work safely and social distance; we appreciate your continued patience.

"We are delighted to be returning to communities across the UK and Ireland."
