McLaurin says that Steven Sims Jr. has taken ‘a big jump’ this offseason

While a lot of the attention surrounding the Washington Redskins has been focused on Terry McLaurin, a future superstar in the making, there was another receiver who made some noise in his rookie year after going undrafted and earning a spot on the 53-man roster.

Steven Sims Jr. became one of the standout players for the Redskins in 2019, and his shifty speed and quick feet saw him rise from a practice player to a special teams player, to an occasional offensive player to a crucial piece of the offense. In his rookie season, Sims finished the year with five offensive touchdowns. Former Redskins offensive coordinator, Kevin O’Connell, found a role for Sims in the offense, and new OC Scott Turner is likely to expand that role.

McLaurin, who has worked alongside Sims a bit this offseason, says he’s seen a lot of growth in his fellow WR, and he’s excited for the steps forward he’s going to take this season.

If Kelvin Harmon is able to take a big jump as well, and rookie Antonio Gandy-Golden is as good as expected, the Redskins could have a very young and dynamic group of WRs on their hands.
