McLaren Formula One star Lando Norris reveals where his football loyalties lie in Bristol

Bristol-born Formula One star Lando Norris has declared where his football loyalties lie in the city.

The 21-year-old is rapidly becoming one of motorsport's rising stars, with the McLaren driver third in the driver's championship behind max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the standings, with two podium finishes in five starts, including taking third around the famous streets of Monaco last time out.

Norris will be behind the wheel this weekend as the Formula One heads to the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan, with the McLaren man fifth-favourite with the bookies to stand atop the podium and lead the champagne celebrations on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of Saturday's qualifying, Norris took part in a social media Q&A, in which he was asked which football team he supports.

"I have two," he replied. "My favourite team growing up was Bristol City because it’s where I grew up, a little bit, and my dad was very good friends with the guy who owned Bristol City."

The driver's father, Adam Norris, is among Bristol's richest people, with a fortune in excess of £200million.

Much of that wealth is built upon a stake in Bristol-based investments firm Hargreaves Lansdown, owned by Robins chairman Steve Lansdown, hence Norris Jr's gateway to supporting City.

However, you are unlikely to see the 21-year-old enjoying a pint in The Three Lions before leading the chants at Ashton Gate anytime soon.

He continued: "(I supported) Bristol City then (as a child), and I feel like people are going to slate me for it, but then it was Man U, but only when (Cristiano) Ronaldo was there. That was the team I supported when Ronaldo was there.

"But I don’t watch football anymore, I’m not a football fan, so (I support) no-one."
