It is often cute when real life couples star in romantic films together and McKenna Grace and Mason Thames prove it. The duo star opposite each other in the film Regretting You and it is adorable.
I spoke with McKenna Grace twice for Regretting You, the first time was just me and her. Which allowed Grace to gush about working with Thames in the film without him being there. A lot of their scenes together play out like a romantic comedy which, if you know the plot of Regretting You, may sound weird. But it works for Grace’s character of Clara and so we talked about the balance between the more dramatic parts of the film and those cheesy rom-com moments.
“It’s a very hard thing to balance because it’s a romance movie, but there are so many traumatic, insane things happening throughout this movie,” Grace said. “So it was a very weird thing to balance where I’m like, ‘Josh, Hey, everybody just died. What am I doing?’ And so it was definitely hard at times to figure that out, but I feel like we kind of got there and figured it all out together. But it was really fun because at the end of the day, whenever there are these crazy things going on in your life, sometimes it is all consuming, but other times everybody processes grief differently. And I think that Clara just had so much going on and sometimes you push things away, sometimes you push them away and you wanna focus on the fun little crush that you have in your life.”
The fun little crush being Clara’s crush on Miller (Thames). “And then it hits you like a ton of bricks whenever you get home at night. So I was just trying to take everything as it came and whatever Miller texts me, I’m excited, I’m gonna go and do this. And then I get home and it’s just like you can’t really distract yourself all the time. And then eventually she deals with it all and talks to her mom and works through it. But to get to Mason and I, we had a blast creating all of those moments and getting to play these characters and do our kind of first real romance movie together. It was really fun. There was nobody I would’ve rather done it with.”
