Dawson, McKenna, Colback - Nottingham Forest injury latest and return dates ahead of Reading

Nottingham Forest hope to have defender Scott McKenna available for the weekend’s trip to Reading.

But they face being without Jack Colback for a number of weeks, after an ankle injury in Sunday’s defeat to Swansea City left the midfielder on crutches.

McKenna missed Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw at home to Watford, being replaced by Joe Worrall, who made his own return from a spell on the sidelines due to a broken foot.

Forest are back in action on Saturday as they travel to the Madjeski Stadium to take on Reading.

GARIBALDI RED: What should Nottingham Forest do to help strengthen their team in January?

Ahead of that game, here is the latest injury news.

Scott Mckenna

Injury: Ankle

“Scott’s (injury is) not so much a problem, but Jack’s is,” said boss Chris Hughton.

"Scott’s is minor. It was touch and go. He just felt his ankle in the last game.

“We felt he might be okay for this game, and then it was the question of whether we risk him, particularly when we’ve got other options.

“I’m hoping he’ll be available for the weekend.”

Potential return date: Vs Reading (December 5)

Jack Colback

Injury: Ankle

“His ankle is sore and we’ll determine over the next couple of days how long he’ll be out for.

“But I think it is likely to be weeks.

Potential return date: Vs Millwall (December 19).

Joe Worrall and Michael Dawson

In addition to having Worrall fit again, for the first time since September, fellow centre-back Michael Dawson was on the bench against the Hornets.

The 37-year-old has yet to play this season and has been out of action with a calf problem.

The Reds brought an end to a three-match losing run at the City Ground, and will look to build on that on Saturday.

"What Michael Dawson brings to the squad is the same as what Joe (Worrall) brings to the squad,” said Hughton.

“But Joe is younger, and with regards his fitness levels, I’d be far more comfortable with Joe starting the game than I would with Daws.

“But it’s really good to have him back in the squad.

“Even though we feel the performances have been better than the results, you still want that competition and character in the squad.

“Michael is always a good one to have in the changing room.”

Tyler Blackett, Samba Sow and Lewis Grabban

Tyler Blackett (unspecified), Samba Sow (hamstring) and Lewis Grabban (hip) are all back in training, though it remains to be seen if they will be included against the Royals.

Gaetan Bong and Luke Freeman

Gaetan Bong (hamstring) and Luke Freeman (groin) also remain on the injury list.
