Mark McGowan and his new-look Cabinet have been officially sworn in following Labor's historic WA election win.

The Premier and his 16 ministers were sworn in by Governor Kim Beazley at a ceremony at Government House this morning.

Mr McGowan announced the distribution of portfolios yesterday, when he appointed himself State Treasurer and promoted five MPs to the ministry.

Amber-Jade Sanderson, John Carey, Tony Buti, Don Punch and Reece Whitby were the new additions.

The new Labor ministry included five women and 11 men, and three new portfolios: Climate Action, Hydrogen Industry and Medical Research.

Take a look back at the historic 2021 WA election campaign.

Labor has won 52 of the 59 Lower House seats, while the previously Liberal-held seat of Churchlands was on a knife-edge as the counting continued on Friday.

The exact makeup of the Legislative Council was less certain, but Labor was set to claim a majority in both Houses of Parliament.

'We will repay that faith': McGowan

Mr McGowan described it as a very special day, and asked his ministers to work hard and leave their portfolios better than they found them.

"You've been given a great honour and responsibility," Mr McGowan said.

"We are in this position today by the good favour of the public.

"The public has put a large amount of faith in our team and we will repay that faith.

"Always remember that service to the people of Western Australia is a rare privilege.

"Appreciate it, enjoy it.

"Do great, life changing things for the state.

"Let's get back to work."
