MCG cause for concern as Victoria notches seven new cases

Victoria's COVID-19 commander Jeroen Weimar has confirmed seven new positive cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The new cases, confirmed on Wednesday morning, come from two separate chains of transmission.

Mr Weimar said the MCG was an area of concern after one of the infected people attended a Carlton-Geelong AFL game on Saturday, July 10 between 4pm and 8pm.

The state government is also exploring a number of potential exposure sites at Maribyrnong's Highpoint Shopping Centre.

"Any members of the community who have been in the Highpoint Shopping Centre on Friday, July 9 between 10am and 2pm are encouraged to come forward and get tested," Mr Weimar said.

"This is clearly a rapidly growing situation and we are very keen to make sure we get a firm grip on this."

Earlier, the Health Department confirmed Victoria recorded two new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. These included one case in the community and one in hotel quarantine.
