McFly's Dougie Poynter and girlfriend Maddy Elmer 'split' after three years of dating

McFly star Dougie Poynter and his girlfriend Maddy Elmer have ended their relationship after three years.

The 34-year-old first started seeing the model back in 2018. It wasn't until June 2019 that they were spotted kissing while out in London.

However, it seems like the coronavirus lockdown was a tough time for them and they decided to part ways.

A source explained: "Maddy and Dougie seemed to be a great match. They had a lot in common, including their passion for unusual animals, like insects and reptiles."

"But like a lot of couples they found lockdown very hard and they decided to split last year."

They added to The Sun : "It was a very upsetting time for both of them, but the decision was mutual."

Mirror have contacted his reps for comment.

When they first got together, it was revealed that the two had known each other for quite some time.

They got closer and ended up together shortly after.

A source said at the time: “Dougie and Maddy have known each other for a while and properly hit it off at the end of last year.

“He’s had some downtime over the past few months and they’ve grown close.

“Dougie took her on holiday at the end of April and the beginning of May and she was introduced to his McBusted bandmate James Bourne."

The singer previously opened up about how he handled McFly - which also consists of Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher and Harry Judd - taking a hiatus in 2016.

He said he turned to valium to help his worries about the band breaking up 'disappear'.

When asked if he struggles to remember the periods in which he was using the drug, he told The Sun : "Honestly, yeah. I mean, you get flashbacks, but it’s a huge blur. It’s strange.

“That’s something which is really hard to come to terms with, literally losing two years. Two years just went as like a weird dream. Coming out the other end was like, ‘What? Where’s my band?’”

During the chat, it was also revealed that his bandmate Harry encouraged him to go to rehab after learning that the chilling drug could cause him to die.

Dougie added of Harry stepping in: “It was certainly an intervention. I don’t remember kicking up a fuss but . . . I don’t remember much really.”
