McFly and Strictly star Tom Fletcher rushed to hospital with worrying eye condition

Tom Fletcher has been rushed to A&E after realising one of his eyes was drooping.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 37, shared an update with fans this evening [December 19], as he explained how he now faces six weeks of gruelling steroid treatment.

He told his fans on Instagram: "Sorry I’ve been quiet for a bit.

"I was wiped out with some sort of illness and in bed for a few days.

"I just got back on my feet yesterday and uveitis decided to kick me down again," he added with an eye emoji.

The singer and author went on to thank the NHS staff who helped him out at A&E, explaining: "Very grateful to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London! It’s the 2nd time I’ve stumbled into that place holding my eyes and they’ve been amazing.

Tom then shared some of his treatment programme with his Instagram followers, telling them: "For now, it’s dark rooms, sunglasses and 6 weeks of steroids. Merry Christmas!"

"Also, shout out to my amazing optician, Dipesh at @parkerandhammond who was giving me advice at nearly midnight last night. Hero!"

"That’s an elaborate excuse for pink eye," Tom's bandmate Harry Judd joked in the comments underneath his pal's post.

"Ouch- feel better soon," Lisa Snowdon wrote to Tom this evening, as a fan of the singer added: "Oh no!! Hope you’re on the mend soon."

Another of Tom's fans wrote: "This sucks! Get better soon. I’ve had reoccurring uveitis for about 6 years now with no helpful suggestions or remedies it’s horrible. Lucky you got sorted so quickly."

Tom recently shared an interesting insight into her relationship with his wife (Giovanna Fletcher/Instagram)

According to the NHS, uveitis as inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea or uveal tract. It can cause eye pain, redness and vision changes, including blurry or cloudy sight.

Tom's health news comes following the singer's admission he once dumped his now-wife Giovanna Fletcher and spent 'years' grovelling to win her back.

The singer first met I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! 2020 winner Giovanna, also 37, back when they were teenagers, both attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School.

Tom says he wasted no time in trying to establish a romance with TOWIE star Mario Falcone's sister - asking her out on the day they first met.

"She said yes but I dumped her two days later," he admitted in October.

"Then I spent years grovelling, trying to get her to go back out with me – which thankfully worked! We’ve been together for 19 years this year." the star added when speaking to OK! Magazine.

Tom and Giovanna tied the knot in 2012 and are doting parents to three sons; Buzz, eight, Buddy, six, and Max, four
