McDonald's worker who 'couldn't stop coughing' at work tests positive for coronavirus

A McDonald's worker who could not stop coughing at work has tested positive for coronavirus.

The infected McDonald's employee, who served drive-thru customers, travelled into work via public transport while displaying symptoms and worked halfway through their shift.

But they were sent home and are now self-isolating after they "couldn't stop coughing" at the fast food restaurant in Hull, East Yorkshire.

The McDonald's restaurant was said to have remained open after an enhanced clean.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said she was disappointed by the response at the branch where her siblings work.

She said: "Many employees have vulnerable relatives at home who they are putting at risk through inconsiderate people."

McDonald's staff held a meeting and all restaurant employees were informed of the positive coronavirus case.

A spokesperson said the branch was then given "an enhanced clean as a precautionary measure."

But the woman raised concerns that the restaurant was not fully closed highlighting that the infected employee would have shared a headset with colleagues on the drive-thru lane.

She added: "I'm really disappointed with McDonald's. This staff member was also serving customers.

"[They] had travelled in on public transport, worked half a shift and because [they] couldn't stop coughing went home again on public transport. Work for everyone else carried on as normal."

A McDonald's spokesperson confirmed the positive coronavirus case.

She said: "One employee at our Holderness Road restaurant has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating."
