McDonald's worker tests positive for coronavirus and contact tracing underway

A McDonald's worker has tested positive for Covid-19 at an East Kilbride branch.

The fast-food giant confirmed the news and say all employees have been contacted.

The Whirlies restaurant was also closed for deep cleaning and a close-contact investigation is underway.

The member of staff is believed to have been on shift on Friday night before testing positive for the virus on Saturday morning, the East Kilbride News reports.

A McDonald's spokesperson said: "One employee at our East Kilbride Whirlies restaurant tested positive for Covid-19 last week and is self-isolating.

"As soon as we were informed, the restaurant was deep cleaned by an external cleaning company and we contacted all restaurant employees.

"We have a number of safety measures in place to help keep our people safe, including perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a two metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser."
