McDonald's worker swaps free burgers for packed lunches and loses six stone

A McDonald's worker lost six stone after giving up her free fast food during shifts.

Rebecca Wills, 30, has managed to shake off more than a quarter of her bodyweight after swapping free McDonald's burgers for healthier packed lunches.

The employee, who works at the Leicester McDonald's branch, has been with the company since she was a teenager and tipped the scales at nearly 22 stone.

While she has the option of free McDonald's meals during her shift, Rebecca has since decided to switch hamburgers for salads and now walks to work every day.

With regular exercise and a healthier diet, she has shed six stone with Slimming World weighing in at 15st and 7lbs.

Rebecca, from Anstey in Leicestershire, said: “All my friends and everyone at McDonald’s have been really supportive and they’re always saying, ‘you’ve lost so much weight.'

“It’s made me feel amazing and people can see the new confidence in me. I’m a lot happier too.

“People say they can’t believe it and it makes them want to lose weight too.”

Rebecca said being 5ft 10ins tall meant her weight never felt like an issue until her recent weight gain.

She said: “It didn’t look too bad before because I wasn't too short but it was starting to.

“When I was younger I used to be really active but all of a sudden I started being lazy and eating for the sake of it.

“I don’t really know what caused it – I was probably bored and just didn’t enjoy exercise.

“I just started to feel embarrassed to be in photos and like I needed to lose weight.”

Rebecca joined a Slimming World group with her mum and a friend in Anstey.

Since May last year, her new healthier regime has changed her outlook on life which means she now enjoys walks and a lighter lunch.

She said: “I hated exercise before but now I love taking the dogs out for a walk. We have two black labs called Belle and Izzy.

“I also walk all the way to work, which is about 35 to 40 minutes, and while we get offered free meals there, I’ve switched to taking a salad or something instead..

“I love going for a nice hour-long walk around Anstey.

"I get home and I feel like I’ve done something and it also makes me want to do more.

“I do more washing and cleaning around the house so my parents are happy about that.”

Rebecca said the key things to achieving her weight loss were some simple controls on what she was eating every day.

She added: “Portion control is probably the main thing and the way you cook things.

“Then you just limit the amount of bread, cheese and milk you have. It’s turned my diet upside-down.”

But for now, the diet is on pause while Rebecca takes a break to enjoy Christmas.

She said: “I’m having some time off to treat myself but in moderation.”
