A former McDonald's worker from Hull said she has been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket after leaving her job to become a teacher in September.
Allie Rowland, 23, had worked at McDonald's on a zero-hours contract since March after she and her partner's jobs at the Bonus Arena became unstable as the arts industry was decimated by the coronavirus pandemic, Hull Live reports.
Allie, who has completed three different degrees, now works as a teacher working with children with special educational needs after leaving her job at the Holderness Road McDonald's restaurant on September 20.
But she said she is still owed £250 for 9.5 holiday days which she had accrued and not taken since starting the job in the spring.
"I was expecting pay out of the money I had earned and I didn't receive that," she said.
"It may not sound like a big deal but when you're trying to pay rent during a pandemic it is a big deal.
"My partner and I both worked in the arts industry so we've had no work. If we hadn't had that work safety net then we would have been in a really difficult predicament."
Allie said she had been told by the company managing her payroll that the issue stemmed from a "change in policy" relating to holiday pay that had reportedly been enacted in June.
A McDonald's spokesman apologised for the "administrative error" and said the company was in the process of contacting her to rectify the mistake.
But Allie said she had received no reply after raising the concerns since receiving her last paycheck.
"People have just shut me down or not replied at all," she said.
A spokesman for McDonald's said: "We were aware of this situation and in the process of contacting Allie to explain and correct the mistake.
"We are working to rectify the situation and would like to apologise for any concern caused by this administrative error."
