McDonald's will open 15 restaurants later this month.
The fast food giant shut down all of its 1,300 restaurants in the UK and Ireland on March 23 after previously offering takeaway and drive-thru services as the coronavirus pandemic hit.
But now the company is starting the process of reopening sites.
On May 13 they will reopen 15 restaurants in the UK - initially only offering delivery through selected partners.
The full list of restaurants involved will be announced next week.
Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s CEO UK and Ireland, said when restaurants do open new measures will be put in place.
He said: "McDonald’s already has high standards for cleanliness and routine cleaning of our restaurants has always been in place. We will increase how often these procedures are completed and provide all employees with updated training on restaurant cleanliness and sanitisation. All restaurants will be deep cleaned before reopening."
Other measures will also be introduced:
- Perspex screens and floor markings will be introduced in specific areas
- Additional protective equipment including non-medical grade face masks will be provided
- All employees will be asked to confirm they are fit and able to work, and we will use contactless thermometers, with temperatures taken on arrival at work for every shift

He added: "This week we have been running controlled tests to explore the safest way to reopen our restaurants. To give us all confidence in the new operational measures we are introducing to keep you and our employees safe, we asked our employees for their thoughts, have incorporated much of their feedback and will continue to listen and learn."
