The world's largest and most famous quick-service restaurant chain, McDonald's serves around 2.5 million customers a day through its 1,200 UK restaurants. More than 65% of these are operated as franchises, owned and managed by local business people. The company runs several initiatives in support of local communities, including a long-standing partnership with grassroots football. It also has a strong commitment to British agriculture, sourcing 55% of its ingredients from British and Irish farmers. McDonald's invests heavily in the development of its employees and has an annual training budget of £30m. Thanks to this, career progression is good: nine out of 10 McDonald's managers started as crew, as did one in five of the company's franchisees.
