McDonald's to trial vegan burger with Beyond Meat

McDonald's is to trial a new plant-based burger with Beyond Meat as it aims for a bite of the booming vegan market.

The fast food giant said the patties will be used in a "plant, lettuce and tomato" sandwich in 28 restaurants in Canada next week.

Shares of Beyond Meat rose another 10% on the news, having tripled in value since the company's much-hyped stock market debut in May.

McDonald's vice president of global menu strategy Ann Wahlgren said."We've been working on our (Beyond Meat PLT) recipe and now we're ready to hear feedback from our customers."

Tim Hortons, KFC and Dunkin' Brands have already added Beyond Meat's patties to their menus.

McDonald's already sells plant-based burgers in Germany and Israel in partnership with Nestle, whose Incredible Burger is sold under the Garden Gourmet brand in European countries, and in McDonald's in Germany as Big Vegan TS.
