McDonald's to take down 'tasteless' McCrispy advert after it appears opposite crematorium

McDonald's is set to remove an advert for its McCrispy burger after it was rather unfortunately positioned opposite a crematorium.

The ad from the fast food chain ended up on a bus stop directly across from Penmount Crematorium in Cornwall, and right next to a sign pointing to the crematorium. While the unintended placement was largely met with hilarity, some expressed concern that it could cause offence, CornwallLive reports.

One person who saw the funny side vowed: "If I was from there and getting cremated, I'd put in my funeral plans to purposely drive by this."

"This has been the best laugh today," another admitted. Someone else even commented: "My mum was cremated here last month, and she would've found this hilarious."

However, some pointed out that the sign could upset grieving families. One woman, whose mother-in-law was cremated at the establishment last year, said: "Although I can see the funny side, it is tasteless and I'm sure some grieving family members won't like to see it when visiting Penmount for the funeral and cremation of a loved one."

Another member of the public told CornwallLive: "I think how funny it is will probably depend on how long ago you followed the crematorium sign wearing a black tie."

A spokesperson for McDonald's confirmed that the sign would be taken down, saying: "We were unaware of the road sign in the vicinity of this bus stop. However, in light of the concerns raised by CornwallLive, we have asked for our advertisement to be removed."
