McDonald's to reopen hundreds of branches for dine in next week in England and Wales

Fast-food giant McDonald’s has confirmed it will reopen hundreds of restaurants next week for indoor dining across England and Wales.

From May 17, fans will be able to sit inside as the rule of six is extended to indoor gatherings as part of step three of the lockdown roadmap.

Table service and app orders will be encouraged when branches reopen to help reduce crowds in branches.

Visitors can also expect limited seating in some cases to accommodate social distancing.

All customers will be asked to wear a face covering when entering the restaurant and not seated, unless they are exempt.

The fast food chain will continue to offer a limited menu, but it said it's planning to extend it as well as opening hours over the coming months.

It comes as Boris Johnson confirmed this week that restaurants and pubs will be allowed to reopen for indoor service from Monday, May 17.

It's the first time in months after England was forced into a third national lockdown on January 4 due to a rising infection rate.

Paul Pomroy, chief exectuive of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: "We are delighted to be re-opening our dine-in areas.

"Monday is another big step forward for both England and Wales, and we’ll be thrilled to see our customers dining-in and enjoying their meals with us – we know they have been eagerly waiting to get back.

"As the country starts to open back up more fully – so are we."
