McDonald’s has announced it will reopen a limited number of restaurants for delivery.
The fast food chain closed the doors to its UK restaurants in March to prevent the spread of coronavirus , leaving many wondering when they’d next get to enjoy their favourite meals.
Now after weeks of wondering, McDonald’s has confirmed it will “slowly, but safely, begin to resume serving McDonald’s customers again.”
On Wednesday, May 13, McDonald’s will reopen 15 of its UK restaurants with a limited capacity and with delivery only via Uber Eats and Just Eat.
There will also be new safety measures in place for staff, including perspex screens and floor markings, protective equipment such as face masks, and social distancing measures for delivery and service partners.
Staff will also have their temperature taken on arrival at work for every shift.
Earlier this week, McDonald’s confirmed it would run tests behind closed doors to see if its restaurants could reopen safely.
Paul Pomroy, CEO for McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “This week we have been running controlled tests to explore the safest way to reopen our restaurants.
“To give us all confidence in the new operational measures we are introducing to keep you and our employees safe, we asked our employees for their thoughts, have incorporated much of their feedback and will continue to listen and learn.
“The tests have proven successful and I will outline the ways in which we will slowly, but safely, begin to resume serving McDonald’s customers again.
“On May 13 we will reopen 15 of our restaurants in the UK; this will be in a limited capacity with delivery only.”
When restaurants reopen, McDonald’s will be operating a limited menu and will temporarily not be serving breakfast.
The restaurants reopening will be announced next week.
