McDonald's set to launch first full vegan meal in Irish stores

McDonald's will begin selling its first full vegan meal in the new year.

The fast-food giant is set to launch Veggie Dippers, after an 80% increase in customers ordering vegetarian options in the past year.

The new dippers, made with red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas surrounded by breadcrumbs, will hit restaurants in Ireland from January 2, 2020.

The Veggie Dippers will be teamed with Vegan Society approved fries - and it will also be available as a Happy Meal.

Thomas O’Neill, Head of Food Marketing at McDonald’s Ireland, told the Irish Mirror: "In the last 12 months we’ve seen an 80% uplift in customers ordering vegetarian options at McDonald’s.

"So it is time for the brand famous for the dippable McNugget to launch a dippable option for our vegetarian, vegan and flexitarian customers.

"The Veggie Dippers are a delicious addition to our menu and we’re looking forward to seeing what customers make of our first vegan Extra Value Meal and Happy Meal in the New Year."

The new vegan meal options are:

  • Veggie Dippers meal – Four red pepper and pesto dippers with light and crispy breadcrumbs, served with Fries and a soft drink.
  • Veggie Dippers Happy Meal® – Two red pepper and pesto dippers with light and crispy breadcrumbs, served with choice of vegan friendly side (vegetable bag, fruit bag or fries) and water or a Fruit Shoot.
  • Alternatively, the four Veggie Dippers can be purchased separately.
