McDonald's reveals expected opening date of new Durham City restaurant

A McDonald's drive-thru is expected to open in Durham at the start of next year, bringing 65 jobs.

The restaurant at St Andrew's Park, off Dragon Lane, will be a single-storey building and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Plans for the restaurant were lodged by Angel Developments and are part of a wider retail park scheme which will include three other retails units, with the retailers still to be confirmed.

A McDonald's spokesperson said: “We’re are exploring taking a leasehold interest at St. Andrew’s Park and are working closely with the developer to finalise matters with a view to delivering the new restaurant in early 2020”.

It will be the latest outlet opened by the fast food giant in County Durham, with a restaurant opened in Stanley in May.

Opened on Clifford Road, it also created 65 full and part-time jobs.

When the Durham city restaurant opens it will be the latest in a host of big name retailers that have come to the city.

Odeon and TJ Hughes that have already opened, while The Range and Lidl are currently under construction.
