McDonald's has announced its restaurants will shut from 11pm as a new lockdown takes effect.
The global fast-food chain took to Twitter to make the announcement saying restaurants will stay closed "while we review and verify any additional enhanced safety measures for these services".
McDonald's said its restaurants will nonetheless stay open for drive-thru and delivery.
Click&Serve through the My McDonald's app will carry on being available at its drive-thru restaurants.
It announced the changes as it said: "Following the government announcements, we are pleased to remain open, but with a few changes. We know this is a really difficult time for everyone and we really appreciate your patience and kindness, both with our crew and online."
McDonald's also warned customers that with smaller teams and social distancing in place "it may take longer to serve you".
It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson last night announced the whole of England would plunge into a new lockdown following a peak in coronavirus cases.
The lockdown is already in place but will only become law at 12.01 on Wednesday.
Pubs, restaurants and cafes must stay close again. While delivery and takeaway meals can still be offered, they cannot offer takeaway or click and collect alcohol.
It is the third time in just 10 months that the country goes into lockdown as numbers soar to over 60,000 - the highest record since the pandemic began.
The restrictions will stay in place till mid February.
The full guidances from the government says cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs must close "with the exception of providing food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway (until 11pm), click-and-collect and drive-through. All food and drink (including alcohol) can continue to be provided by delivery".
Non-essential retail shops, hospitality venues and leisure and sport facilities have also been ordered to shut.
Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s CEO UK and Ireland, said in a statement: “Following the latest government announcements, our restaurants will remain open for Drive-Thru and McDelivery services and Click & Serve for Drive-Thru which is available via the My McDonald’s App.
"Our dine-in and walk-in takeaway services will be temporarily unavailable while we take time to review and reassess our safety procedures with an independent health and safety body.
"This is a temporary change in our operations to allow us to test and validate any additional measures that may further enhance the safety of our takeaway service.
“We will continue to keep customers updated via the My McDonald’s App and our website.”
