McDonald's restaurant flooded as water gushes through roof in storm

This is the moment rain came gushing through the roof of a McDonald's, leaving a pool of water on the floor and tables and chairs soaked.

Speke's restaurant in New Mersey Retail Park suffered flooding after a dramatic thunderstorm hit the region.

In a video, shared publicly on social media, deafening rain can be heard pelting the restaurant's tables and chairs.

A man says: "It's lashing it down in work, f****** hell."

But despite the video appearing to show the restaurant soaked, McDonald's confirmed the store is ready to reopen - with just the drive-thru currently operating due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Repairs and cleaning have been carried out, so employees can continue work and customers can use the drive-thru.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told the ECHO : “Our Speke restaurant was damaged during recent extreme weather, causing flooding in the dining area.

"We have now managed to carry out all the repairs and have cleaned the restaurant ready to reopen as normal today."

Earlier in the day, the Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning predicting an 18-hour thunderstorm likely to cause flooding and disruption.

Pictures from last night's storm showed areas of Liverpool overwhelmed by water, as people reported seeing rain come into their houses.
