McDonald's reopening Ireland: How to check if you're within 5km of the six Dublin restaurants back open

McDonald's has reopened six of its Dublin restaurants - but only a Drive-Thru option will be available.

The fast-food giant announced last week that it will return to business in the Dublin area from Wednesday, May 20.

The company also plans to open all of its drive-thrus across the country by the start of June.

But before you head to a McDonald's, there are six things you need to know.

  • Spending will be capped at Drive Thrus at €30 per car
  • Fewer people in the kitchen and service areas, serving a reduced menu over reduced hours
  • The use of contactless thermometers, with temperatures checked on arrival at work
  • Perspex screens in key locations in the kitchen and service areas;
  • Protective equipment for our people including gloves for customer and courier facing positions and face masks, but not the type needed by healthcare professionals;
  • And additional training on cleanliness practices, including increased frequency of handwashing and extra sanitising of touchpoints around the restaurant

As we are still in phase one of the Government's reopening roadmap, customers can only travel to places within 5km of their home.

McDonald's reveal safety measures as select drive-thrus reopen

On Wednesday morning, McDonald's released the locations of the restaurants which are reopening.

They are:

Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14

Kylemore Road, Dublin 12

East Wall Road, East Wall, Dublin 3

Artane Castle Shopping Centre, Kilmore Road, Dublin 5

Coolock Retail Park, Malahide Road, Coolock, Dublin 17

Belgard Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24

And you can check if you're within 5km of one by using the website 2kmfromhome and changing the distance to 5km.

It will then show you a red radius which tells everything within 5km from your location.

The Agriculture Minister Michael Creed last week gave his support for the reopening.

He said: "McDonald’s is a valued key purchaser of Irish produce and an employer of a large number of people throughout Ireland.

"I therefore welcome today’s announcement that McDonald’s restaurants will begin a cautious reopening in Ireland from May 20with a small number of restaurants opening as Drive Thru only at first.

"The last couple of months have been undoubtedly tough, both economically and socially, but the recent announcement from Government on the phased reopening of the country, offers reassurance and hope for brighter days ahead."
