McDonald's punters cause Glasgow traffic chaos to get final fast food fix

People across Glasgow flocked to their nearest McDonald's yesterday to have one last bite after they announced they were to close all their UK restaurants due to the coronavirus.

On Sunday McDonald's confirmed that it would be pulling the shutters down on all 1300 restaurants at 7pm last night - leading to fast food fans dashing to get their final fix.

And the measure - done to protect the safety of their customers and staff during the pandemic - caused tailbacks and traffic to build up at their locations across the city.

Huge queues were spotted in Robroyston as hungry punters waited on the chance to go through the McDonald's drive-thru one last time.

While the chain's restaurants in places such as Clydebank and Anniesland were also swamped with customers keen to make a final pilgrimage to the 'Golden Arches' for the time being.

The scene was replicated at restaurants across the UK, with the Evening Standard reporting that so many people were "panic buying their last Happy Meal" in Mansfield that McDonald's staff had to leave the restaurant to help manage the traffic on roads nearby.
