McDonald's plans to bring back much-loved breakfast items for fans to enjoy during lockdown

Fast food fans have been at a loss for weeks now, with restaurants including McDonald’s and KFC closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Thankfully, in the last couple of weeks these restaurants have been slowly reopening stores, though with a limited menu.

While McDonald’s has yet to reopen a Merseyside restaurant, the chain revealed this weekend that we can expect an announcement soon.

Now, it seems like there’s another reason to celebrate, as McDonald’s announced that more menu items could be on the way very soon, including the popular McMuffin.

In a statement sent to customers this weekend, Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s UK and Ireland CEO, said: “Over the coming months, we will explore how to extend the menu, increase our opening hours and reintroduce those much-missed McMuffins at breakfast.”

However, he did stress that McDonald’s would only do so very cautiously and guided by information from the Government and health officials.

He added: “Working with our employees, franchisees and suppliers I want to ensure we only move forward to the next stage of reopening at the right time, when we are confident it is safe for us to do so.”

In reopened restaurants, McDonald’s has added new safety and wellbeing measures for when restaurants reopen including perspex screens and floor markings in specific areas to aid social distancing, additional protective equipment for staff, social distancing measures for all delivery staff and service partners.

All staff are having their temperature taken on arrival for their shift.
